MESOCARP FIBRE also known as Palm Pressed Fiber is the biomass residue obtained after pressing the palm fruits for palm oil extraction. About 11% of the OPMF is generated from the palm fruits after oil extraction. OPMF consists of fruit fiber, crushed kernels and shells.
OPMF is mainly utilized as fuel for steam boilers at the mills. Being lignocellulosic material, OPMF can also be used to reinforce polymer materials such as thermoplastics.
Mesocarp fiber and palm kernel shell are widely used as fuels for boilers at palm oil mills to generate electricity.
